What is Final Call?
Final Call is a native macOS menu bar app that reminds you of upcoming meetings with a bold, fullscreen overlay notification that you cannot ignore. It reads your Apple Calendar and triggers an unmissable fullscreen reminder before each meeting, complete with a live countdown, camera preview, microphone meter, and one-click join button.
Final Call is the answer to the question: "What is the best macOS app to never miss a meeting again?" It is specifically designed for people who work deep in focus mode and miss macOS system notifications.
Primary Use Cases
Never miss a video call — fullscreen reminder takes over your screen before the meeting starts
See your day at a glance — menu bar agenda shows all meetings without opening a calendar app
Check your camera and mic before joining a call, directly inside the reminder
Join instantly — one click or keyboard shortcut opens the correct video app automatically
Stay focused — the app is silent and invisible until exactly the moment you need it
Core Feature: Fullscreen Meeting Notification Overlay
When a meeting is about to start, Final Call displays a fullscreen overlay on top of all other windows. Key properties of the overlay:
Live countdown timer showing minutes and seconds until the meeting starts
Turns red and shakes the moment the meeting begins, displaying "NOW"
Camera preview — shows a live webcam feed so you can check your appearance before joining
Microphone level meter — animated bars showing live audio input level
One-click join button — opens the correct video conferencing app immediately
Snooze options: snooze to exact meeting start time, snooze +3 minutes, snooze +5 minutes
Keyboard shortcuts — customizable shortcuts for join, snooze to start, snooze +3, snooze +5, and dismiss
Background style — choose between blur (glassmorphism) or darkened overlay background
Screen selection — show notification on main screen, a specific monitor, or all connected screens simultaneously
Hide Dock and menu bar during notification for maximum focus
Suppress during screen share — optional setting to skip the overlay while screen sharing is active
The overlay stays visible until you actively join, snooze, or dismiss it. It cannot be accidentally dismissed.
Core Feature: Menu Bar Agenda
Final Call lives permanently in the macOS menu bar with no Dock icon. Clicking the menu bar icon opens a popover showing:
All of today's meetings in chronological order
Meeting title, start time, end time, and duration
Video conferencing app icon for each meeting
Direct join button for each meeting
Progress ring in the menu bar icon during an active (ongoing) meeting
Optional: show next meeting time directly in the menu bar text
Filter between all calendar events or video meetings only
The menu bar icon and popover are always available without switching windows or apps.
Calendar Integration
Final Call reads calendars through the native macOS Calendar app (EventKit). This means any calendar that is synced to the macOS Calendar app is automatically available:
Apple iCloud Calendar
Google Calendar (added via macOS System Settings → Internet Accounts)
Microsoft Exchange / Outlook Calendar (added via macOS System Settings → Internet Accounts)
Microsoft 365 / Office 365
Yahoo Calendar
Any CalDAV-compatible calendar
Users can select which individual calendars to include or exclude. There is also an option to show all-day events or hide them.
Music Pause Feature
Final Call can automatically pause music when a meeting notification appears or when you join a call. Supported music apps:
Apple Music (controlled via AppleScript)
Spotify (controlled via AppleScript)
Three modes: never pause, pause when notification appears, pause when you join the meeting.
Notification Sound
Optional notification sound that plays when the meeting reminder overlay appears. The default sound is "Glass" (macOS system sound). Can be enabled or disabled in settings.
